Gone are the days when patients had their head wrapped in bandages going through a lot of pain and hair transplants aftercare following a hair transplant procedure. Thanks to the new follicular unit hair transplantation procedures that patients are now able to shampoo their hair the next day after the surgery. The multiple sessions of hair transplant surgery have given way to a single session procedure where thousands of tiny follicular hair transplants are grafted in a day. As the complete process is performed under local anesthesia, at that time patient feels very comfortable throughout the procedure watching TV, or taking a nap.
From the days of nasty looking punch grafts, the hair restoration surgery has really come of age. The best achievement of modern day surgery is the perfection that a hair transplantation surgeon is able to offer you through the cutting edge technologies.
Till a few years back most patients complained about the doll’s hair look that that they had with the transplanted hair. Following the new innovations and the latest hair transplantation techniques a better than average surgeon has now the capacity to give your transplanted hair an appearance that is very close to a natural look.
According traditional hair transplant procedure, a thin strip of hair is taken from the back and/or sides of the scalp and the area is at the same time closed by sewing. After the hair grows over the incision it is no longer visible. The donor strip is than carefully dissected into a series of individual follicular units consisting of one to four hairs. Meticulous stereo-microscopic dissection is a crucial part of this hair transplantation procedure, without which it is impossible to get full yield from the donor hair. These grafts are stored in a saline solution and refrigerated till they are planted on the bald area.
More usual results are obtained only if the surgeon does the careful planning of the recipient site. The surgeon has already drawn a natural looking hair line on the scalp. The approach here is to transplant single haired follicular units on the hair line while carefully monitoring the direction and depth of incisions that are made for implanting the hair transplants.
The area behind the hair line is transplanted with group of 2-3 hair follicular units, whereas the central, forelock area where maximum growth is to be achieved is transplanted with 4-5 haired follicular units. The surgeon should be careful to match the recipient site incision sizes to the different size follicular unit grafts, so that a snug fit is created. This latest Follicular unit transplantation procedure tries to reproduce the way hair grows in natural way. Given the expertise of a good hair transplant surgeon one can really have the transplanted hair to look as natural as one’s original hair.
Some hair transplant surgeons use the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique. It is a fairly a new technique. The hair in the back and sides of the scalp is shaved to approximately 1-mm in length. Unlike FUT (follicular unit transplant) where a whole strip is removed, the advanced procedure removes follicular units. A tiny circular incision is made around each follicular unit and they are extracted, one-by-one, from the scalp using a high precision tool. The wounds which are small enough are left as such; they heal on their own in about a week’s time. The rest of the procedure is similar to follicular unit hair transplantation.
Hair transplants scars are visible for about a week; however, they can be concealed by wearing a hat. After care of the hair transplants is hardly required, patients can resume their daily activities the second day following their hair restoration surgery. Only care they need to take is to avoid strenuous exercise, smoking and drinking. New hair growth is seen on the scalp in about 2 to 3 months, it takes about 10 to 12 months to grow the hair fully.
Besides the look, the newer procedures help the patient to get the best results in a single session. Dividing the hair transplant surgery into number of sessions not only increases the cost of the surgery it also increases the risk to the grafts. The hair that grows in such cases is always thinner. Moreover, one can never have a natural looking hair if the surgery is broken down into 2 or 3 separate sessions.
How you make a conclusion for hair transplant surgery is very crucial, whom you choose as your hair restoration surgeon is even more significant. The best idea is do a full-proof study. What about checking out some hair transplantation info?
